The Boston University Center of Excellence (CoE) in Women's Health provides a highly unique coalition of state-of-the-art women's services across several institutions to address women's health issues with a focus on serving minority and low income women. The Center addresses the following five spheres of activity in its agenda to improve women's health:
-
Addressing the delivery of comprehensive, integrated, coordinated women's health services throughout two health care systems, the Boston Medical Center and the VA Boston Health Care System
-
Developing collaborations and new working groups in research, with an established multidisciplinary research program
-
Addressing medical education through the entire spectrum of medical school training, residency training, post residency fellowship programs, and post graduate continuing education
-
Reaching out to women, especially to communities of color, through neighborhood affiliations, and collaborations with neighborhood health centers, community and public health agencies
-
Faculty development to advance the status of women as faculty at Boston University Medical Center
The CoE has forged a women's health collaboration among three academic health care institutions: Boston University School of Medicine/School of Public Health, and BU's major academic hospital affiliates, Boston Medical Center (the merger of the former Boston City Hospital and Boston University Medical Center Hospital), and the VA Boston Healthcare System. Additional collaborating partners in the work of the CoE are the Boston HealthNet, a partnership of twelve community health centers which, together with Boston Medical Center, span a catchment area of nearly 50% of Boston's population; and the Boston Public Health Commission (the public health and health policy-setting agency for the City of Boston). |
